The Renaissance began in Northern Italy and then spread through
Europe. Italian cities
such as Naples, Genoa, and Venice became centers of trade between Europe and
the Middle East. As these cities traded goods, they also bgan trading ideas as well. Thus, the ideas
of the Renaissance began to spread.
The original ideas of this movement was characterized
by a revival of interest in classical literature and classical ideals. Thee founders of this period stressed a revolt against
the intellectual sterility of the then-modern medieval spirit, and especially against "scholasticism" that marked it.
The second period of the Renaissance was marked by a continued
zeal for classical study, and by the development of a broad learning and the new view of the intellectual life.
Overall, its influence was felt in literature, philosophy, art, politics, science,
religion, and other aspects of life as well. Renaissance scholars employed the humanist method in study, and searched
for realism and human emotion in art.
